O’ Be Joyful! – AVAILABLE JULY 31st

Well friends, here it is.. after months and months of promises. Its on. We have written, recorded, and manufactured into several media our current “blaster-piece”… may she go down in infamy. In 5 days, this sucker should be available in your local record store. You will be able to purchase it online in our store (CLICK ON THE PIC ABOVE), on itunes, or from us personally at one of the 80 sum odd shows we have left this year. We want you to have it and we want you to love it! Thats why we have made it available to stream in advance of the release. Its like a money back guarantee in advance. Now, we need you to go out and get one for you and one for your little sister’s record collection (try the Cream 180 gram vinyl with gatefold, lyric sheet and photo of some neighborly mules). We hope you will tell your mama about it too, because she will really like Hail Hail Rock and Roll as well as Kembas Got the Cabbage Moth Blues. I know my mama loves it.

Delta Mama and a Nickajack Man… the short version of a long story

Cary Ann here… We have been thinking about the history of the songs on O’Be JOyful. We have been revisiting our writing process and thinking about where these songs came from, and what they mean to us. Since the record has been finished for a while, it has been good to reflect on them with a little distance. We decided we would share a few of these stories with you in anticipation of the release of the record. Since the track Birmingham is available on Itunes and seems to be getting some radio play from coast to coast (dang!) we thought we would start with that one

We’re Still Alive!! …and more tour dates

Yes friends, all’s well here in camp ShoRo after our 3 month saunter across the great USofA. Had a fantastic time with our new buds Jonny Corndawg, Robert Ellis and Andrew Combs and met a lot of great folks out there along the highways, byways, cornfields and cow pies. So what now? What, you might ask, does a band do to recover from a mind-bending, body-beating, drive all day-sweat all night feat such as this?? Why… book more tour dates of course! Here we go kids, it’s time for Shovels & Rope’s ‘May in the Midwest’ tour. Check the dates to your right —->>

PS Lot’s of news on our new record “O’ Be Joyful” to come.. in the meantime, check out the teaser for this tasty little documentary The Moving Picture Boys are doing on us called “The Ballad of Shovels and Rope”. We’ll see ya sooo oo oo ooo oo oo ooo oooonnn!

Hey folks…. Presenting an original tee shirt design by Ollie Pruitt (Bearcat Studio). We met this go-getter two weeks ago in Athens, GA where we chatted about an idea for a tee shirt. 24 hours later, she emailed us this great design featuring the “pleasure doing business with you” hand shake, and the greek translation of “Making Something Out of Nothing”. Creatio Ex Nihilo is actually a fancy philosophical notion that the universe emerged out of nothingness…sounds like a whole can of worms. As it pertains to Shovels & Rope, its our commitment to make do with the best we have to create the best we can and approach all endeavors with an optimism that something great can come out of what seemed to be nothing at all.
Thanks Ollie for wrapping that up in a handy design, and thank to Marshall Thomas for the print job. You can have one! unisex sized Sm- XXl. 20 bucks, Free shipping!
