There have been some scheduling adjustments to this next leg of the Dawes tour. Dawes had to reschedule the Iowa City, Memphis and Little Rock shows – so we will be doing our own headlining shows in Bowling Green, Memphis and Little Rock on those same dates. Check the tour dates for the details. Iowa City, hang in there! We’ll be back as soon as we can. Looking forward to a beautiful July in the Midwest.
It occurred to us one day that we ought to make some recordings of a few songs from our previous records, arranged for Shovels and Rope. You know, how do we em live! Then somebody got wise and says, “we should add these to the album, as extras, for the people, because they will like em. ” and then someone else says, “what about the folks that already bought O’Be joyful? We gotta make it so those folks can get the track As WELL. It’s important!! ” we stood in agreement that, in addition to the Deluxe Edition de O ‘Be Joyful which features these extra jams, we should release said jams onto the wild Internet yonder via iTunes, so you too can complete your collection, fan who bought that wax on preorder months before its release because you love us to death. As fate would have it, radio DJ John Richards of KEXP (Seattle, Washington) nearly burned his hands off getting that red hot version of Bad Luck onto his record player. Double good news for us, because he broke our new jam loose into the ether and can no longer be busted for crimes for leaving any fingerprints. Thanks John!
We had the great honor of being invited to be a part of the Third Man Records Blue Series which awarded us the opportunity to record a couple of songs with Mr Jack White III himself. Needless to say minds were blown (ours), wonderful things happened, and now we have this beauty of a 7″ to show for it. Thanks Third Man! PS what do Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Jack White and Shovels & Rope all have in common? click the link to find out..
Here’s our official video for ‘Birmingham’ starring small versions of us and brought to you by our friends The Moving Picture Boys. enjoy!
This first month and a half of 2013 has been an action packed one for team shovels & rope. We did some secret recording in Nashville (more on that later), played music on a boat filled with wonderful people including many of our heroes, made a music video (more on that later), played on Letterman and had our first ever 2 week run of sold out shows. Oh yeah, and we did the Mardi Gras. We are back home now building things, planting things, painting things, writing things and mostly just feeling grateful. So Thank You!
Here are some highlights:
Hey friends. We are very excited to announce that they asked us to come sing on the TV! Tune in to The Late Show with David Letterman on January 30th and watch us try not to freak out on national television. Our tour starts the following day in New York at the Bowery Ballroom and conveniently ends the day before Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Check the tour dates for more details and links to tickets. Thank you for being so good to us!
